No excuse for violence in Bangladesh, those responsible should be held accountable: US
The United States has said there is no excuse for violence and anyone responsible for violence in Bangladesh should be held accountable.
'We have been clear that there is no justification for violence, whether it is committed against peaceful protesters or by those taking part in protests. Anyone involved in violence should be held responsible,' said Matthew Miller, the Spokesperson for the US Department of State.
Miller made this statement during a media briefing in Washington on October 16, in response to a journalist's inquiry about recent government actions and reports of the alleged deaths of over '3,000' police officers between August 5 and 8, following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government.
The interim government has declared that no legal action will be taken against students or citizens involved in the mass protests that took place between July and August, effectively granting immunity to those who participated in attacks even after Hasina's government collapsed on August 5.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also issued a statement confirming that there will be no legal cases, arrests, or harassment related to the events of the uprising, which occurred from July 15 to August 8.
