Won't tolerate Imran Khan's military trial: PTI
Pakistan's PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf) party held a long awaited rally on Sunday, demanding the release of jailed party founder Imran Khan, and vowing the stand for a military trial against him.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, addressed the gathering in Sangjani, near the capital, stating, 'If Imran Khan is not released within two weeks, we will take action to secure his freedom.' He warned that the PTI's peaceful efforts could escalate into violent resistance if their leader was not freed.
Gandapur also issued a stark warning to political opponents, threatening to initiate legal action against them in his province if Khan remained in custody. 'The KP government is under our control, and I will make cases against you,' he asserted.
He further emphasized that Imran Khan’s legal team had won all cases against him and demanded his immediate release. Gandapur warned the military establishment that even they would be powerless to stop the PTI from ensuring Khan's freedom.
The rally, which had been delayed several times and lacked official permission from the Islamabad authorities, finally took place after weeks of anticipation.
Responding to remarks by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who suggested that Khan might face a military trial due to his alleged involvement in the May 9 incidents, Gandapur declared, 'Not even those you consider powerful can prevent us from freeing Imran Khan.'
Gandapur made it clear that the PTI would not tolerate any further injustice or abuse, vowing to retaliate if provoked. He also hinted at a possible call for a significant sacrifice in their fight for what he described as 'true freedom.'
