Russia to supply air defence systems to Myanmar
Russia will supply a batch of missile and artillery air defence systems Pantsir-S1_ unmanned aerial vehicles Orlan-10E and radars to Myanmar.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony attended by Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu_ who is in Myanmar on an official visit_ and the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's armed forces_ Min Aung Hlaing_ reports TASS_ the Russian state news agency.
Russia's Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin inked the agreement for Russia.
Russia has so far supplied to Myanmar 30 MiG-29 planes_ twelve Yakolev-130 combat training jets_ ten Mi-24 and Mi-35P helicopters_ eight Pechora-2M air defence missile systems and also radars_ armoured vehicles and artillery pieces.
A contract has been concluded for providing six Sukhoi-30SME planes. Some have been delivered already.
Military hardware undergoes repairs and maintenance at Myanmar's joint special centre for all types of equipment_ both aircraft and armoured vehicles.
Bilateral cooperation saw intensive development over the past five years. Myanmar's delegations regularly participate in international army games and combat training activities. Last year Myanmar's contingent took part in the Kavkaz-2020 exercise. Also_ in 2018 an inter-governmental agreement was concluded on simpler procedures for Russian naval ships visiting Myanmar's ports.
The command of Myanmar's armed forces has shown interest in other advanced weapon systems of Russian manufacture.
