High level US delegation to visit Bangladesh this month

A senior-level US delegation is likely to visit Bangladesh this month to discuss ways with the interim government to take forward the relations between the two countries in a changed political scenario.

Donald Lu, the US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, is anticipated to be part of this delegation.
Diplomatic sources indicated today (September 3) that discussions are ongoing between the two countries to finalize the details of the visit.
This visit will mark the first of its kind from the US since the establishment of Bangladesh's interim government, led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, on August 8. The delegation is expected to arrive in Dhaka prior to Professor Yunus’s departure for New York to attend the 79th UN General Assembly.
In addition to Donald Lu, Lindsey W. Ford, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia, is also expected to join the delegation, according to diplomatic sources.
There is also a possibility that Brent Neiman, the US Deputy Under Secretary for International Finance at the Department of the Treasury, will accompany the delegation.
During their visit, the US delegation is scheduled to meet with Chief Adviser Professor Yunus, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, and Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, among other engagements.
