UN chief welcomes efforts to organize parliamentary elections in Bangladesh
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomes efforts to restore calm and organize parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, according to his deputy spokesperson on Monday.
'He urges the interim government to ensure inclusivity in the coming weeks, emphasizing the importance of considering the perspectives of women, youth, and people from all over the country, including minority and indigenous communities, as Bangladesh progresses towards parliamentary elections,' stated Farhan Haq in a press release.
Guterres reaffirms his full solidarity with the people of Bangladesh and advocates for the respect of their human rights. Haq also mentioned the Secretary-General’s ongoing call for a 'full, independent, impartial, and transparent' investigation into all incidents of violence.
