Pakistan government announces move to ban Imran Khan's PTI
The Shehbaz Sharif-led government in Pakistan decided to ban the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. This was revealed by the country's Information Minister on Monday. PTI is currently the largest opposition party in Pakistan.
Attaullah Tarar, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, disclosed at a press conference that the government decided to ban PTI due to alleged anti-state activities. The case will be referred to the Supreme Court, as reported by Pakistani media.
This decision follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that deemed Imran Khan's party eligible for over 20 seats reserved for women and minorities, potentially making PTI the largest party in the National Assembly.
