No hope of survivors in Nepal bus accident, 55 still missing

Rescue teams in Nepal ruled out chances of finding survivors in last week's landslide that swept two passenger buses carrying 65 people into a river swollen by heavy rain, authorities said on Monday.

Hundreds of security personnel resumed their search operations early on Monday to locate the buses and the 55 passengers who remain missing, more than 72 hours after the accident occurred.
The search efforts, focused on the accident site in Chitwan district, approximately 86 km (53 miles) west of Kathmandu, have so far recovered seven bodies, including two found on Monday.
'There are no chances of finding survivors. Our focus is on recovering bodies,' stated Bhesh Raj Rijal, a senior police official in Chitwan district.
Family members at the search site have abandoned hope of finding their loved ones alive, according to an official.
Since mid-June, landslides and floods triggered by torrential monsoon rains have claimed the lives of over 100 people in Nepal.
