Bangladesh sends back 134 Myanmar security personnel
Another group of 134 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and military personnel, who had fled to Bangladesh amid ongoing conflict between Myanmar’s military and armed rebel groups have been repatriated.
According to sources from the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and local administration, four buses carrying the BGP and military personnel arrived at the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) jetty in Cox's Bazar around 7am on Sunday. The personnel were repatriated around 10am.
These Myanmar government forces members were transported via a tugboat to a Myanmar Navy ship stationed at sea.
On Saturday morning, a Myanmar delegation arrived in Cox's Bazar aboard a Myanmar Navy ship. The delegation later traveled to Hnila High School in Teknaf upazila, where they completed the necessary formalities to take back the BGP and military personnel.
Previously, on April 25, Bangladesh repatriated 288 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and military personnel who had also sought refuge in Bangladesh.
Before that, on February 15, Bangladesh had sent back 330 members of Myanmar’s border guard forces, military, and customs officers.
