Iran-Pakistan plan to increase trade to $10b in first step

The leaders of Iran and Pakistan agreed to strengthen economic and security cooperation in a meeting on Monday that sought to smooth over a diplomatic rift.

During a joint press conference in Islamabad on Monday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi expressed solidarity with the people of Gaza and condemned the actions of the Zionist regime.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for global cooperation to halt the atrocities in Gaza, urging swift action to address the situation. He reiterated Pakistan's unwavering support for Palestine and stressed the importance of a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, advocating for the establishment of a free Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
President Raeisi echoed Sharif's sentiments, acknowledging the Pakistani people's stance against the oppression perpetrated by the Zionist regime. He commended Pakistan's principled positions and expressed respect for its government.
Raeisi highlighted the multifaceted nature of the bilateral relationship between Iran and Pakistan, affirming a commitment to enhancing cooperation across economic, political, commercial, and cultural spheres.
Both leaders emphasized the shared commitment to combating terrorism, organized crime, and drug trafficking, underscoring the importance of addressing security challenges collaboratively.
In a significant move, President Raeisi announced plans to elevate economic and commercial ties between Iran and Pakistan, aiming to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion annually in the initial phase. He emphasized the strategic significance of the border between the two nations as an opportunity for mutual prosperity and cooperation, symbolizing the close ties between Iran and Pakistan.
