Bangladesh to send back Myanmar security forces sheltered during border conflict
Myanmar's security force members who sought refuge in Bangladesh amid recent border conflicts will be repatriated on Thursday, February 15, according to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The handover is scheduled to take place at the Bangladesh Navy's jetty in Cox’s Bazar’s Inani.
While specific details about the repatriation process were not disclosed by the BGB, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the decision to return the Border Guard Police (BGP) personnel by sea was reached through discussions between the two countries.
To facilitate the repatriation, 100 out of the 330 Myanmar nationals were relocated from the Tumbru border area in Bandarban to Teknaf on February 8.
According to BGB officials, a Myanmar Navy ship will approach the maritime border with Bangladesh and anchor offshore. Subsequently, the BGP members and their families will be transferred to the ship in the morning, with the entire process commencing at 8 am on Thursday.
