India aims to boost air connectivity between Bangladesh and Northeast states
India is actively pursuing efforts to enhance air connectivity between its northeastern states and Bangladesh, fostering stronger ties and promoting tourism growth in the region.
Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Pranay Verma, expressed the enthusiasm of Indian investors to contribute to the burgeoning tourism industry in Bangladesh. Verma conveyed this sentiment during a cordial meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
Discussions primarily focused on the prospect of introducing new air routes between the two neighboring countries, with a specific emphasis on connecting the northeastern states of India with Bangladesh via air travel. The goal is to stimulate tourism by facilitating easier and more efficient travel options between these regions.
The Indian High Commissioner underscored the encouragement and support extended to Indian investors interested in contributing to the growth of Bangladesh's tourism sector.
Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan, speaking to reporters after the meeting, highlighted the potential for increased cooperation in civil aviation and tourism, envisioning it as a means to fortify the friendship between the two nations. He also mentioned that India had proposed several ideas to improve relations in these areas, and they would be duly considered.
As part of their collaborative efforts, Bangladesh and India are set to organize a tourism fair aimed at attracting a greater number of visitors. This initiative aligns with the shared objective of boosting tourism and fostering a more robust economic partnership.
High Commissioner Verma emphasized the pivotal role of collaboration in the aviation and tourism sectors to strengthen economic ties between the two nations. Responding to queries from reporters, he shared that Indian visas were granted to 1.6 million Bangladeshi citizens the previous year, with an increasing trend.
Furthermore, Verma expressed an improvement in the efficiency of visa issuance to Bangladeshis and hinted at the possibility of exploring visa-on-arrival options for Bangladeshi nationals in India in the future.
