EU congratulates PM Hasina, vows to elevate partnership with Bangladesh

The European Union (EU) has extended warm congratulations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on securing her fourth consecutive term in office and has affirmed its commitment to enhancing the partnership and cooperation with Bangladesh.

EU Ambassador Charles Whiteley conveyed these sentiments during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Gono Bhaban. During the meeting, Whiteley emphasized the EU's dedication to elevating the existing facilities provided to Bangladesh across various sectors, including environment, good governance, renewable energy, and transportation, under the Global Gateway facilities.
According to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Deputy Press Secretary, Md Noorelahi Mina, Ambassador Whiteley assured that the support and facilities extended to Bangladesh would see further enhancements in the coming days. Notably, the EU had already allocated 407 million euros to Bangladesh during the recent Global Gateway Forum summit held in Brussels, Belgium.
Ambassador Whiteley reaffirmed the EU's commitment to continue providing facilities to Bangladesh under the Everything but Arms (EBA) initiative. Additionally, he pledged to grant Bangladesh the Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus) facilities, further strengthening economic ties between the EU and Bangladesh.
The EU envoy took the opportunity to commend the initiatives undertaken by the Sheikh Hasina government for the development of people with disabilities and marginalized communities.
Expressing her satisfaction with the existing relations between Bangladesh and the European Union spanning the last 50 years, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated, "This relationship between Bangladesh and the European Union will be elevated to a new height." The Prime Minister's optimism reflects the shared commitment to fostering a deeper and more prosperous partnership between Bangladesh and the EU.
