US looks forward to working closely with Bangladesh: envoy Haas
US envoy to Bangladesh Peter Haas on Wednesday said he looks forward to working closely with Bangladesh in the coming days on issues of mutual importance.
Ambassador Haas said this after meeting with the newly appointed Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud.
Following the meeting at the foreign ministry, envoy Haas addressed journalists, expressing his enthusiasm for future cooperation. He stated, 'I had the opportunity to meet the new foreign minister and had an introductory meeting today so that we could talk about the future of our relations and how we work together on issues of mutual interest such as climate change, expanding business opportunities, and Rohingya.'
Highlighting specific areas of mutual importance, Haas emphasized the need to address climate change, create business opportunities, and engage in discussions concerning the Rohingya crisis. He conveyed his optimism about working closely in the coming months to advance shared interests.
Moreover, Ambassador Haas underscored the significance of Bangladesh in the broader Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing that Washington views the country as an important partner.
