Human trafficking on the rise in India
The prevalence of human trafficking in India has surged, approximately 3,000 illicit agencies are operating within India, with over 680 cases involving Indians fleeing the country illegally since 2020.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs disclosed that out of the 2,925 identified agencies, 56 are situated in Gujarat, while 80 operate in Karnataka. These agencies utilize various platforms such as social media sites like Facebook, WhatsApp, and other messaging platforms to carry out their illegal operations.
The modus operandi of these illicit agents involves sending Indian citizens to nations like the UK, USA, and Canada, subjecting them to dire living conditions against their will, as reported by Indian media sources.
Delhi, the capital city of India, stands at the forefront with the highest count of illegal agencies, totaling 1,832 entities. The Ministry of External Affairs further emphasized that these agencies have deceitfully exploited individuals aspiring for jobs abroad.
A recent incident on December 21 garnered attention when French authorities and law enforcement intervened to thwart the illegal transfer of 300 individuals from India. Acting on confidential information, French authorities detained a chartered plane for four days within France due to suspicions of potential illegal entry. The passengers were allegedly planning to unlawfully enter the United States or Canada with the ultimate aim of reaching Central America.
In a distressing revelation by the Press Trust of India (PTI), it was disclosed that nearly 100,000 Indians attempted to enter the United States illegally in 2023 alone, highlighting the grave magnitude of the issue at hand.
