Modi's BJP ahead in India's state elections

Vote counting began Sunday in four Indian states in a test of strength for India’s opposition pitted against the ruling party of Premier Narendra Modi ahead of next year's crucial national election.

Early trends indicate BJP's significant progress in three states, while Telangana offers consolation for the Congress party.
Last month, elections were conducted in four states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. Due to India's vast population, polling generally occurs in phases to accommodate the electoral process.
Anticipated on Monday, the election results from Mizoram are yet to be disclosed.
The outcome of these elections in the five states is poised to offer an insight into the prevailing voter sentiment leading up to the 2024 national elections, where Narendra Modi is aspiring for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister.
Initial trends emerging from India's local elections illustrate the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gaining an edge in crucial states. As per the preliminary data released by the Election Commission of India, BJP is leading against its primary adversary, the Indian National Congress, in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.
In November, a total of five states underwent elections to elect representatives for their respective local assemblies. The unfolding results carry substantial weight in gauging the political landscape and public sentiment ahead of the impending national elections.
