‘Only credible elections can resolve Pakistan's crisis'
Elizabeth Horst, the US Deputy Secretary of State Responsible for Pakistan has reaffirmed the United States' commitment to promoting credible elections in Pakistan, emphasizing their importance in ensuring a violence-free process that allows the people to democratically choose their leaders.
Speaking at a seminar held at One UN Plaza, Ms. Horst also urged Pakistan to continue implementing the reforms recommended by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a vital step towards stabilizing its struggling economy.
During her address, Ms. Horst pointed out that the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan had enabled the United States to reevaluate its relationship with Pakistan as a bilateral one. This recalibration encompasses critical areas such as economic security and the political landscape.
'While the US strongly supports Pakistan's democratic process, it does not endorse any specific individual or political party,' Ms. Horst affirmed, underlining the non-partisan stance of the United States in its engagement with Pakistan's political dynamics.
