Pakistan, Afghanistan in contact over militancy issue

Islamabad and Kabul have initiated communication to address a pressing issue concerning the escape of militants into Afghan territory following their activities in Pakistan. This development comes in response to intelligence reports highlighting the movement of militants across the border.

During a briefing, Shaukat Abbas, the Additional Inspector-General and Head of the Counter-Terrorism Department's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chapter, disclosed that there is an ongoing dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan on this matter at the state level. These discussions are being pursued with utmost seriousness, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Abbas also provided an update on the department's recent efforts. They have successfully traced the relatives of the suicide bomber responsible for the August 9 attack on a security forces vehicle in Bajaur. Furthermore, they are diligently working to ascertain the identity of this bomber, who detonated himself during a JUI-F workers' convention in the tribal district on July 30.
Regarding the attack on the JUI-F event, Abbas acknowledged that while some individuals have been apprehended, the network responsible for the attack has yet to be dismantled. He also indicated that the suicide bomber is likely of Afghan nationality. In addition to this, he revealed the discovery of a dormant militant cell that has been operational in Swabi district for an extended period, spanning seven to eight years.
