At least 46 killed in suicide attack at Pakistan rally

A suicide bomber has detonated explosives at a political rally in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 46 people and wounding nearly 200, according to officials.

The dreadful incident occurred on a Sunday during a gathering organized by the conservative Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) party on the outskirts of Khar in the Bajaur district, which shares a border with Afghanistan.
According to a statement released by provincial police, the suicide bomber triggered the explosion near the stage where several senior party leaders were present. While investigations are still ongoing, initial reports have suggested a potential link to the ISIL (ISIS) group.
The ISIL has been active in neighboring Afghanistan following the fall of President Ashraf Ghani's government. It stands in opposition to Afghanistan's Taliban administration and has been known to have members who cross the porous mountainous border to seek refuge in the Peshawar area.
Feroz Jamal, the provincial information minister, confirmed that the attack resulted in the tragic loss of 46 lives, with nearly 200 individuals wounded, many of whom are in critical condition.
Health officials fear that the death toll may further rise as they struggle to provide medical care to those affected by this horrific act of violence.
