Electricity transmission to Bangladesh
India, Nepal Power ministry officials to meet next month
India and Nepal Power ministry officials likely to meet next month in New Delhi, where they may discuss the issue of a formal agreement for transporting Power from the Nepal to Bangladesh using the Indian transmission infrastructure.
Nepal is keen to sell 40-50MW of electricity to Bangladesh through India for which a royalty fee will have to be paid to India. A formal arrangement is necessary for this between two nations.
The issue of Nepal-Bangladesh electricity transmission has been the subject of separate bilateral talks between India and Nepal, and India and Bangladesh, for more than a year.
The matter was also raised by Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina during her talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi in September previous year.
In pushing for Bangladesh's electricity trade with India, Nepal and Bhutan, Bangladesh Premier Hasina had argued for a sub-regional cooperation in the power sector, officials said.
Bangladesh also wants to develop Sankoshi 3 power project in joint venture with Nepal in that country.
