US_ UK and Canada again imposed sanctions on Myanmar

The United States_ the United Kingdom and Canada have assessed coordinated new sanctions on Myanmar_ fastening on elderly military officers_ including the recently- appointed chief of the air force and those linked to the arms trade in response to the service's brutal crackdown on opponents to its rule.

The US sanctions target three alleged Myanmar arms dealers as well as the companies linked to them_ and two businesses controlled by sanctioned arms dealer Tay Zaw.

The US also assessed measures against the 66th Light Infantry Division_ an army unit blamed for burning some 30 civilians alive in their buses in southeastern Kayah state on Christmas Eve last time.

"We've taken these conduct moment in response to the governance's raising violence_ to show our strong support for the people of Burma_ and to promote responsibility in connection with the achievement and the violence executed by the governance_"US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement."We'll continue to put costs on the military governance and those who support it until it ceases the violence and restores Burma s path to republic."

The UK took action against arms dealers and companies with a focus on those sourcing and supplying weapons to the air force_ which has engaged in the bombing of civilian villages_ forcing tens of thousands from their homes.

Those headed include air force chief General Htun Aung who's also a director of Myanmar Economic Effects Ltd (MEHL)_ a significant military empire.

"The Myanmar military has shown no signs of stopping its brutal campaign of violence against the people of Myanmar_ who continue in their fight for democracy_" UK Minister for Asia Amanda Milling said in a statement.

"These sanctions target those who are necessary in supplying the service with munitions that grease these abuses across the country. Working with like-inclined countries_ the UK will always defend the right to freedom_ republic_ rule of law and hold to account this suppressive."

Canada_ meanwhile_ added four individuals  including Htun Aung  and two companies to its blacklist.
