PM Modi hands over Battle Tank Arjun to Indian Army
Prime Minister of India_ Narendra Modi handed over the 'Made in India' Battle Tank Arjun (Mark 1A) tanks to Army Chief General MM Naravane in Chennai today.
PM Modi arrived in Chennai to launch various government programmes in Tamil Nadu_ where assembly election will be held this year.
Narendra Modi accepted a salute by the state-of-the-art tank_ indigenously designed_ developed_ and manufactured by the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment in Chennai.
In a high-level meeting_ the Defence Ministry had recently cleared the induction of 118 Arjun Mark 1A tanks into the Indian Army_ costing around ¹ 8_400 crore_ news agency ANI reported.
The tank has been indigenously designed_ developed and made by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment_ attached to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)_ along with 15 academic institutions_ 8 labs and several MSMEs_ according to a release by the Prime Minister's Office of India.
