House foreign affairs committee to review US policy towards India

The House Committee on Foreign Affairs is set to review US policy toward India, with a particular focus on strengthening bilateral ties, especially in defense collaboration. This initiative highlights the growing partnership between the two nations, which is based on shared democratic principles and mutual strategic interests.

India ranks 11th on the committee’s list of priorities for the current session of Congress. The review will evaluate various aspects of the US-India relationship, including efforts to counter adversarial influences in South and Central Asia.
A key area of focus will be the defense partnership between the two countries. The committee aims to assess security and technology cooperation, explore opportunities to enhance joint military capabilities, and review counterterrorism initiatives. In addition, it will examine ways to expand economic collaboration, particularly in sectors such as technology, telecommunications, and pharmaceuticals.
India’s role in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) will also be scrutinized, with discussions on its growing involvement in regional security frameworks. Additionally, the committee plans to address the impact of India’s increasing energy demands on global markets and bilateral relations.

China Tops Committee’s List of Priorities
The committee’s primary focus remains the threats posed by China. As part of its oversight responsibilities for the 119th Congress, it will review China’s international agreements, assessing violations in areas such as human rights, trade obligations, and non-proliferation commitments. The committee will also examine Beijing’s policies toward Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Uyghur population, as well as its actions in cyberspace and global trade regulations.
Beyond China, other top priorities include the State Department’s role in multilateral organizations like the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue. The committee will also closely monitor trade negotiations in the Indo-Pacific region and oversee US diplomatic and development efforts through the State Department and USAID.
Among the top 10 global issues under review are Taiwan, Europe, Russia’s war in Ukraine, the Middle East and North Africa, Israel, Iran, Africa, and Afghanistan.
