BJP focusing on demolishing mosques in search of temples: Mehbooba
Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said that, BJP focusing on demolishing mosques in search of temples
'India seems to be heading in the same direction as it was in 1947,' Mufti remarked. She highlighted that while the government should be improving citizens' quality of life, it is instead focusing on demolishing mosques in search of temples.
Drawing parallels with Bangladesh, where atrocities against Hindus have been reported, Mufti said, "If minorities in India are also facing such atrocities, then how is India different from Bangladesh? I see no difference between the two nations in this regard."
Mufti, who leads the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), lamented the deteriorating socio-economic conditions in the country. "When the youth demand jobs, they are ignored. Hospitals and education facilities remain inadequate. Instead of repairing roads, the administration is demolishing mosques to search for temples," she said.
Mufti also referred to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. She described the shrine as a symbol of religious harmony where people of all faiths come to pray. However, recent petitions claim the site was originally a Shiva temple, leading to court-ordered notices to the Archaeological Survey of India and the central government for a survey of the shrine.
Mufti criticized such moves as divisive and counterproductive, urging the government to focus on building unity and addressing the real needs of the people rather than fueling religious conflicts.
