Modi to meet President Xi on Wednesday on sidelines of BRICS summit

Indian Premier Narendra Modi is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday during the BRICS summit in Russia, according to India's foreign secretary. This marks their first meeting since 2020, when relations between the two countries deteriorated following a violent clash along their disputed border.

On Monday, both nations reached an agreement to ease tensions along the contested Himalayan frontier in the Ladakh region, ending a four-year military standoff. This deal is expected to improve political and economic relations between the two Asian powers.
The Modi-Xi meeting will take place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, which is being held in Kazan, Russia. As part of the border agreement, both countries' militaries will now conduct joint patrols at disputed areas along the frontier, following a mutually agreed schedule, according to a senior Indian military official.
