Movement along Bangladesh border in Tripura prohibited
The district magistrate of West Tripura has imposed a restriction on public movement within 500 meters of the India-Bangladesh border in the Agartala and Mohanpur sub-divisions. This order is in effect from 8 PM to 5 AM, starting Sunday and continuing until December 19.
This decision follows the recent arrest of Bangladeshi nationals in Tripura, who were caught either illegally crossing the border or attempting to escape to other states in India, as reported by the Times of India.
West Tripura's district magistrate, Dr. Vishal Kumar, expressed concerns that criminal elements might exploit the expansive Indo-Bangladesh border, potentially leading to law and order issues. He emphasized the need to restrict movement along the border to ensure public safety and maintain peace, particularly during night hours.
The restriction does not apply to security forces, government officials on duty, or those involved in providing essential services.
