I'm confident that things will stabilise in Bangladesh: Rahul Gandhi
During his visit to the United States, India's top opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi, held discussions with a group of American lawmakers at the US Capitol yesterday, where the ongoing situation in Bangladesh was discussed.
Rahul Gandhi conveyed optimism that stability will soon return to Bangladesh. Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, he stated, 'I believe that Bangladesh will stabilize, and we are committed to maintaining strong relations, whether with the current government or any future one.'
He also underscored the importance of ending violence in Bangladesh, noting, 'We discussed the situation in Bangladesh, and it was also brought up in our conversations. Our stance is clear—we are against any form of violence, and it is crucial that the Bangladeshi government takes swift action to address it,' Rahul said during the press conference, according to media reports.
In response to a question regarding Bangladesh, Rahul acknowledged India's concerns over the presence of 'extremist elements' in the neighboring country, adding, 'We share many of those concerns.'
Rahul also pointed out that his Congress party broadly agrees with the ruling BJP government on major foreign policy issues, particularly in relation to extremism in Bangladesh, maintaining a strong partnership with the United States, and India's position on Pakistan—affirming no dialogue will occur until terrorism is halted. He also reiterated the party’s support for India’s ties with Israel.
However, he voiced his disagreement with Premier Narendra Modi’s handling of China, alleging that Chinese forces had occupied Indian territory in Ladakh, comparing the seized area to the size of Delhi.
