US wants to work with India to address key global problems
The United States is keen on working with India to address some of the key global problems, including in areas like healthcare, clean energy and climate change, a top Biden administration official has said.
Nisha Desai Biswal, Deputy CEO of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), made these comments ahead of her visit to India this week. She emphasized that the partnership is less about India needing assistance and more about how the US and India can jointly address these global issues. In an interview with PTI, Biswal stated, 'We have always said if you don't solve it in India, you can't solve it for the world.'
This visit marks Biswal’s first trip to India in four years and her first as the Deputy CEO of the DFC, a US development finance institution and agency.
Her four-day visit to India will begin on Tuesday, where she plans to explore how the DFC can further support the objectives of the US-India Strategic Partnership. She noted that areas like climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting clean energy transitions, and addressing health challenges—similar to the cooperation seen during the Covid pandemic—are key areas where the two countries can collaborate.
Biswal also highlighted that the DFC has made substantial investments in India under the Biden administration. 'India is the largest country in which DFC is investing. We have over $3.8 billion in active projects in India, with $2.5 billion of that invested during the Biden administration,' she said.
