India heightens alert along borders with Bangladesh, Pakistan

India has ordered heightened alert along its border with Bangladesh and Pakistan to keep a check on incoming people for possible symptoms of monkeypox, which has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.
On Sunday, Indian Premier Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary, PK Mishra, led a high-level meeting in New Delhi to assess the nation's readiness and public health measures in response to Mpox.
The WHO reaffirmed Mpox as a public health emergency of international concern on August 14, due to its ongoing presence and spread in several African regions. According to a previous WHO report, 99,176 cases and 208 deaths have been recorded in 116 countries since 2022.
Since WHO's initial declaration of Mpox as a global health emergency in 2022, India has reported 30 cases, with the most recent one identified in March of this year, according to an official statement.
