151 Dead In Kerala's Wayanad Landslides, search on for missing

Nearly thousand people have been rescued after landslides in the hills of Wayanad district in India's Kerala state, authorities said on Wednesday, with at least 151 people dead and many still missing.

Heavy rainfall triggered the landslides on Tuesday, causing hillsides to collapse. Torrents of mud, water, and large boulders swept through tea and cardamom estates and nearby settlements in this popular tourist region. This incident marks the worst disaster in Kerala since the severe floods of 2018.
State Chief Minister's spokesperson, P.M. Manoj, reported that 151 people have lost their lives and 187 remain missing.
The Indian Army has been instrumental in the rescue operations, saving 1,000 people so far. Efforts are also underway to construct an alternative bridge, as the main bridge connecting the affected area to the nearest town of Chooralmala has been destroyed.
