India's Modi to take oath as Prime Minister for the third time today
Narendra Modi is set to take the oath as Prime Minister today, marking the beginning of his third consecutive term in PM office.
Several leaders, such as TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrashekhar, JD (S)‘s H.D. Kumaraswamy, BJP’s Annamalai, and Sarbananda Sonowal, are expected to join the Cabinet. Additionally, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Nirmala Sitharaman will also take the oath of office today. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Pralhad Joshi are slated to be appointed as Ministers.
On June 7, President Droupadi Murmu officially invited Narendra Modi to form the new government following his election as leader by the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Parliamentary Party.
Earlier on the same day, leaders from NDA parties, including Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Nitish Kumar of the Janata Dal (U), and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena, met with President Murmu to present their letters of support for the new government.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new government is scheduled to take place today at 7.15 p.m., according to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
In the recent election, the NDA secured 286 seats, with the BJP winning 240 of those seats, falling short of the 272-seat majority. This is a decrease from the 303 and 282 seats the BJP secured in the 2019 and 2014 elections, respectively.
