Indian PM Modi declares 3.02 crore assets, owns no house or car

Indian Premier Narendra Modi in his recent affidavit submitted along with the nomination papers for the Varanasi constituency in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, disclosed his assets totaling ₹3.02 crore in movable assets. This marks an increase from ₹1.41 crore reported in his 2019 affidavit.

Notably, the affidavit also reveals that he does not possess any residential property or car.
An examination of Modi's financial declaration demonstrates a significant shift from his 2019 affidavit, where he had disclosed ownership of a residential property valued at ₹1.1 crore. However, as indicated in his 2022 declaration, this property, previously jointly owned, has since been donated.
The bulk of Modi's movable assets consists of fixed deposits amounting to ₹2.85 crore in the State Bank of India, along with ₹80,304 across two bank accounts in Gandhinagar and Varanasi. Additionally, he has invested ₹9.12 lakh in the National Savings Certificates (NSC) savings scheme. Modi's sole sources of income remain his government salary and the interest accrued on his savings.
In terms of taxable income, there has been a notable increase, doubling from ₹11 lakh in the fiscal year 2018-19 to ₹23.5 lakh in 2022-23. His liquid assets include ₹52,920 in cash. Furthermore, he retains ownership of four gold rings, weighing a total of 45 grams and valued at ₹2.68 lakh, a detail consistent with his 2019 disclosure.
Beyond his financial assets, Modi's educational background is also outlined in the affidavit. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree from Delhi University in 1978, followed by a Master of Arts from Gujarat University in 1983.
