Indian diplomats faced threatened, intimidated in Canada: Jaishankar

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed India's anticipation for concrete actions against those responsible for the attacks on its high commission in London and consulate in San Francisco, as well as the intimidation faced by Indian diplomats in Canada last year.

Jaishankar revealed that due to repeated threats and intimidation faced by Indian diplomats in Canada, the issuance of visas had to be temporarily suspended. He highlighted the lack of support from the Canadian system during that challenging period.
Last September, India temporarily halted the issuance of visas to Canadian citizens, a decision made shortly after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hinted at the possible involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
India has consistently raised concerns with Canada about the space provided to separatists, terrorists, and anti-India elements in the country, considering it a "core issue" in their diplomatic relations.
Speaking at a summit organized by TV9 Network, Jaishankar emphasized the need for the perpetrators of the attack on the consulate in San Francisco and those who stormed the high commission in London to be held accountable. He called for action against individuals who had threatened Indian diplomats in Canada.
The attack on the Indian high commission in London occurred on March 19 last year when pro-Khalistani elements targeted the premises. Additionally, there was an attempted arson at the Indian Consulate in San Francisco in July of the same year.
