China likely to appoint new envoy to India after 15 month gap

After a hiatus lasting over 15 months China is poised to appoint a new ambassador to India, according to a media report, Xu Feihong is likely to be appointed as the next Chinese envoy to India.

Although there has been no official confirmation, sources have indicated that the Indian authorities have been informed of Xu's nomination. Speculation suggests that Xu may assume the role as early as next month, although the exact timing of his arrival remains uncertain.
Xu Feihong currently holds the position of assistant minister for financial and administrative affairs in China's foreign ministry. His prior diplomatic experience includes serving as the ambassador to Afghanistan from 2010 to 2013.
The outgoing Chinese ambassador to India was Sun Weidong, who succeeded Luo Zhaohui and concluded his term on October 26, 2022. The prospective appointment of Xu Feihong signifies a potential resumption of diplomatic engagement between China and India after a notable interval.
