US President Biden to skip India visit
A senior US official confirmed to the media that President Joe Biden will not be visiting India next month owing to a congested political timetable.
The invitation extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for President Biden to attend the Republic Day parade on January 26 will not be realized. Additionally, discussions about a subsequent Quad summit in New Delhi, involving Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, have been affected by this postponement.
Indian official sources have indicated that the proposed Quad summit is now slated for a later date in 2024. They remarked, "We are seeking alternative dates as the current options are not feasible for all Quad partners."
While the statement doesn't directly mention Biden's invitation, the likelihood of the US President contemplating two separate visits to India within one year seems improbable. President Biden had previously visited New Delhi in September for the G-20 summit.
