India's opposition slams Modi govt inaction on ethnic violence

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition, voiced his strong condemnation of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi's perceived inertia in addressing the deadly unrest in the northeastern region during his parliamentary speech on Wednesday. This marked Gandhi's first address in parliament since his suspension of defamation conviction.

Premier Modi's administration is being forced this week to defend its conduct over months of violence in Manipur state that has killed more than 150 people.
Gandhi's impassioned discourse within the parliamentary chamber formed a critical component of a no-confidence debate, wherein calls for the government's resignation resounded due to its perceived negligence in curbing the unrest that has been festering for an extended period.
Addressing his fellow legislators, Gandhi asserted, 'You are igniting flames across the nation. Manipur became a cauldron of turmoil due to your actions, igniting the very spark you now see.' The rhetoric garnered applause from his supporters and provoked retorts from rival lawmakers.
In a fervent continuation of his address, Gandhi expressed, 'Your actions seem intent on engulfing the entire country in turmoil. The essence of Mother India is being jeopardized under your watch.'
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Modi and identified as a Hindu-nationalist party, consistently faces accusations from its political adversaries of stoking divisions for electoral gain. As India anticipates upcoming general elections early next year, this scrutiny has intensified.
With a commanding majority in the lower house, comprising 543 members, the ruling BJP is poised to secure a resounding victory in dismissing the no-confidence motion. The party has dismissed this motion as a mere sensational ploy aimed at capturing headlines.
