India, Pakistan exchange list of nuclear installations

Pakistan says it has handed a list of its nuclear installations and facilities to the Indian mission in Islamabad under a decades-old agreement between the two nuclear-neighboring countries.

Pakistan's foreign ministry said in a statement on Sunday that India had simultaneously handed over a list to the Pakistani mission in New Delhi.
The Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between two nation was signed on December 31, 1988, and ratified on January 27, 1991.
The agreement, inter alia, contains the provision that both countries shall inform each other of their nuclear installations and facilities, falling within its definition, on January 1 of each calendar year.
Pakistan first officially tested nuclear warhead in 1998 and has since developed a significant stockpile of nuclear capable missiles, as has India.
With the help of China, Pakistan has recently increased its use of nuclear energy to meet the rising demand for electricity.
The two nations also exchanged, through diplomatic channels, the lists of prisoners in each other's custody.
The simultaneous exchange of lists took place in pursuance of the Consular Access Agreement of 2008. Under the agreement, two countries are required to exchange the lists of prisoners in each other's custody on January 1 and July 1, every year.
The government of Pakistan shared a list of 705 Indian prisoners detained in Pakistan, including 51 civilian prisoners and 654 fishermen with the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
The Indian government shared a list of 434 Pakistani prisoners in India, including 339 civilian prisoners and 95 fishermen with the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi.
Separately, Pakistan has requested for early release and repatriation of its 51 civilian prisoners and 94 fishermen, who have completed their respective sentences and their national status stands confirmed.
