Touhid-Jaishankar want mutual cooperation to address challenges in Dhaka-Delhi relations

Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser, Md Touhid Hossain, and India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, have emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to navigate the challenges in bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

Their discussions took place on Sunday during a meeting on the sidelines of the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) in Muscat, Oman, according to a press release from Bangladesh's foreign ministry.
During the meeting, Adviser Touhid highlighted the significance of initiating discussions on the renewal of the Ganges Water Treaty. He also underscored the necessity of convening the SAARC Standing Committee meeting and sought India’s support in this regard.
Both parties expressed optimism about resolving various border-related concerns in the upcoming meeting between the Directors General of Border Guarding Forces of Bangladesh and India. This meeting is set to take place in New Delhi from February 18 to 20.
The leaders also discussed a range of other bilateral issues of shared interest, as noted in the foreign ministry’s statement.
Reflecting on their previous discussions during the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024, they acknowledged the progress made through various diplomatic engagements, including the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held at the Foreign Secretary level in Dhaka on December 9.
Additionally, they noted Bangladesh's participation in India's Energy Week events in New Delhi on February 10-11, represented by the country's energy adviser.
On the sidelines of the IOC, Adviser Touhid also engaged in discussions with Brunei's Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Tanzania's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, further strengthening diplomatic ties.
