Bangladesh demands UN clarification on Rohingya exodus report

Bangladesh's government has sought an explanation from the United Nations over a report published by the UN Refugee Agency that contains factually incorrect information and wanted to know the basis on which the report was prepared.

Bangladesh has urged the UNHCR to release a corrected version of the report to address the inaccuracies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) communicated its dissatisfaction to Gwen Lewis, the UN Resident Coordinator in Dhaka, on Monday, as per official sources.
The controversy stems from a January 7 report by the UNHCR Myanmar office, which claimed that between February 2021 and December 2024, approximately 71,300 people were displaced from Myanmar, with all reportedly entering the Indian states of Manipur and Mizoram. The report notably suggested that none of these displaced individuals entered Bangladesh during this period, a statement that has raised questions in Dhaka.
