Rumor Scanner debunks Indian media report on Pakistani force in Bangladesh

Fact-checking organization Rumor Scanner has dismissed an Indian media report alleging the presence of Pakistani armed forces in Bangladesh.

In a report published Tuesday on its website, Rumor Scanner clarified that the individuals shown in a viral video used by Aaj Tak Bangla, a Kolkata-based news outlet, were members of the Crisis Response Team (CRT), a specialized unit of the Bangladesh Police, not Pakistani military personnel.
The fact-checking group explained that the video, which recently circulated on social media, falsely claimed that Pakistani special forces had entered the court premises in Rajshahi. Indian media reports went further, asserting that the footage showed Pakistani forces patrolling Dhaka streets.
Aaj Tak Bangla’s video report suggested that members of Pakistan’s Punjab Regiment SWAT team had arrived in Dhaka, using the viral video as supposed evidence. However, Rumor Scanner’s investigation found these claims to be entirely unfounded.
The video in question actually depicts CRT personnel from the Bangladesh Police ensuring security when former Rajshahi-3 MP and Awami League leader Asaduzzaman Asad was escorted to the Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 on December 12.
Rumor Scanner pointed out that the word “CRT” was clearly visible on the back of one uniform in the video, while another individual’s clothing prominently displayed the Bangladesh flag.
In its conclusion, Rumor Scanner confirmed that the allegations circulated online and amplified by Aaj Tak Bangla, claiming Pakistani forces were operating in Bangladesh, are entirely baseless and false.
