US pledges continued support for a stable and democratic Bangladesh
US National Security Adviser reiterates continued US support to Bangladesh. The national security adviser of the United States, Jake Sullivan, spoke to Bangladesh interim government chief Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday.
During the discussion, Sullivan expressed appreciation for the interim government's announcement of potential election dates, emphasizing the United States' commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s democratic process.
The two leaders also reviewed Bangladesh's overall development challenges and progress. Professor Yunus conveyed his gratitude to the United States for its substantial assistance in addressing issues inherited by his administration.
Reaffirming Washington's stance, Sullivan underscored the US dedication to fostering a stable, prosperous, and democratic Bangladesh. In response, Yunus acknowledged the critical role of US support during this transitional phase.
Yunus also reflected on his earlier engagements with President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken in September, during a visit to New York. He mentioned anticipating the reports of six key reform commissions by January, which will set the stage for consensus-building efforts aimed at implementing reforms and organizing elections.
