Japan signs $3.3m deal with UNFPA to help Rohingya

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the government of Japan on Tuesday announced a ground-breaking partnership to empower Rohingya refugee women and girls as well as the surrounding host communities in Bangladesh.

Announced on Tuesday, Japan has pledged $3.3 million (JPY 500 million) to enhance services in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and address gender-based violence (GBV).
This funding will bolster UNFPA's efforts in Cox’s Bazar and Noakhali districts, focusing on improving SRH services, preventing child marriage, and involving adolescents and youth in transformative programs that target both SRH and GBV outcomes. The project, titled 'Advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda for Displaced Persons from Myanmar and Host Communities in Cox's Bazar and Noakhali districts,' will also address climate change-affected areas.
The initiative centers on meeting the critical SRH needs of Rohingya women and girls, while simultaneously building the capacity for sustainable health services in the region, according to UNFPA.
