85 Bangladeshi nationals return home from Myanmar
Eighty-five Bangladeshi citizens returned to Cox's Bazar today after being released from prisons in Myanmar. The group was transported by the Myanmar Naval Ship 'UMS Chin Dwin,' which had arrived in Bangladesh to repatriate Myanmar defense force members who had crossed into Bangladesh due to ongoing conflicts in Rakhine state.
The ship departed from Myanmar's Sittwe port in Rakhine and arrived in Bangladesh with the Bangladeshi nationals on board.
According to the Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar, 26 of the returnees were held in Mawlamyine prison, 16 in Pathein prison, three in Kyaikmaraw prison, while the remaining individuals had been detained in Rakhine.
The repatriated individuals are from various regions of Bangladesh, including Cox's Bazar, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Noakhali, and Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Yangon and the Bangladesh Consulate in Sittwe worked tirelessly to ensure the safe return of this group. In the last 15 months, these diplomatic efforts have resulted in the repatriation of 332 Bangladeshi nationals.
The most recent repatriation occurred on June 8, when 45 Bangladeshi citizens were brought back. The embassy and consulate facilitated the process by verifying identities, issuing travel permits, and coordinating with local authorities.
