Top US diplomat Donald Lu to visit India, Bangladesh

A delegation of the United States is set to visit Bangladesh to discuss what kind of support the country could provide on economic growth, financial stability and development needs to the interim government. This was announced by the US State Department in a media release on Tuesday.

The announcement stated that Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, will visit India and Bangladesh from September 10 to 16.
'During his visit, Assistant Secretary Lu will reaffirm the United States’ commitment to supporting the economic growth of its partners and promoting stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region,' the statement read.
In New Delhi, Lu will emphasize U.S.-India cooperation on development, security, and women’s economic empowerment during the India Ideas Summit, organized by the US-India Business Council.
He will also co-chair the 8th U.S.-India 2+2 intersessional dialogue, alongside Jedidiah P. Royal, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, and officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Defense. This dialogue aims to explore further opportunities for strengthening defense cooperation and enhancing collaboration between the two nations in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
In Dhaka, Lu will be part of an interagency delegation that will meet with the interim government of Bangladesh. The delegation will include officials from the US Department of the Treasury, USAID, and the Office of the US Trade Representative. These discussions will focus on how the US can support Bangladesh’s efforts toward economic growth, financial stability, and broader development goals.
