500 more Rohingyas enter Bangladesh in single day
Over 500 Rohingya refugees crossed into Bangladesh in a single day, adding to the two hundred who had already arrived via the Cox's Bazar border on Friday.
In just two weeks, around 8,000 Rohingya refugees have made the perilous journey across the Ukhia and Teknaf border.
Adnan Chowdhury, the Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), reported that authorities have intensified patrols along the river and border areas to prevent further influxes. While some refugees have been intercepted and sent back to Myanmar during their attempts to cross, others have successfully reached the refugee camps.
This recent surge in refugees comes six years after a massive exodus began in August 2017, when the Myanmar military's violent campaign forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas to flee.
By early 2018, more than 750,000 Rohingyas had sought refuge in Cox's Bazar, adding to the 400,000 already living in camps there.
