Bangladesh-Belgium sign MoU on cancer care and research

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in cancer care and research between the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Bangladesh, and Bordet Cancer Institute at Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles (HUB), Belgium, was signed on Monday in Brussels.

This agreement aims to establish a robust partnership between the two institutions, enabling joint research initiatives and the exchange of specialized expertise in cancer care. The collaboration will focus on capacity building and infrastructure development to enhance both institutions' capabilities.
The MoU serves as a framework for collaborative cancer research, encompassing basic, epidemiological, preventive, diagnostic, screening, treatment, cancer control, and survivorship research.
The Bordet Cancer Institute, a highly respected multidisciplinary medical institution in Belgium with over 75 years of dedicated service in the fight against cancer, offers state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services for all cancer types. Additionally, the institute is known for its significant research contributions and high-level specialized university training.
This MoU is the culmination of three years of discussions and negotiations, facilitated by the Bangladesh Embassy in Brussels. Francis de Drée, expressing enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighted the advanced facilities available at the Jules Bordet Institute and the eagerness of his team to commence collaboration with Bangladesh.
Mahbub Hassan Saleh, Bangladesh’s ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, signed the MoU on behalf of NICRH.
