Hasina and Modi hope to further deepen Bangladesh-India relations

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and India's Premier Narendra Modi have expressed their mutual ambition to further enhance the bilateral relations between their nations.

'The leaders have expressed optimism that the existing bilateral relations will deepen in the future,' Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud stated during a news briefing early this morning (June 10).
This sentiment was conveyed during a private meeting between the two prime ministers following Modi's cabinet swearing-in ceremony on Sunday evening.
In a cordial and friendly atmosphere, Prime Minister Hasina extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Dhaka at a time of his convenience, according to Hasan Mahmud.
The bilateral ties between Bangladesh and India have reached unprecedented levels under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi, Mahmud added. Both leaders later attended a banquet hosted by Indian President Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The dinner saw the participation of senior Indian ministers, the Bangladeshi delegation, and other invited heads of government and state, providing an opportunity for brief interactions, Mahmud said.
Prime Minister Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the oath-taking ceremony of the new Indian government, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
This morning, two separate bilateral meetings are scheduled between Prime Minister Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe as well as the Indian External Affairs Minister at her residence.
Sheikh Hasina is expected to depart from the Indian capital for Dhaka this afternoon.
