46 more Myanmar border guard, army take shelter in Bangladesh
Another 46 personnel from the Myanmar military and its Border Guard Police (BGP) have taken shelter in Bangladesh amid ongoing fighting between the military and armed rebels.
According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) spokesperson Md Shariful Islam, these individuals crossed the border at various points near pillars No. 45 and 46 in Naikhongchhari, located in Bangladesh's Banarban district, between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Upon their arrival, Bangladeshi authorities disarmed them and placed them under custody.
Currently, the Naikhongchhari BGB-11 station is overseeing the welfare of 260 Myanmar nationals who have fled their homeland.
Among the recent arrivals, 18 members of the army and BGP entered Bangladesh on Tuesday. Prior to this, two army personnel crossed the Baishfari border in Naikhongchhari on Monday, while 14 BGP members entered through the Teknaf border on Sunday.
Previously, a total of 330 Myanmar nationals who had sought refuge in Bangladesh at various times during the ongoing conflict were repatriated on February 15th.
