Qatar's Emir set to make landmark visit to Bangladesh
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani maiden visit to Bangladesh later this month. Qatar's Emir will lead a 150-member delegation during his two-day visit to Bangladesh starting on April 22, 2024.
The forthcoming visit underscores the mutual respect and esteem between the leadership of both nations, as evidenced by the repeated invitations extended by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh. Ambassador Md. Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh's envoy to Qatar, emphasized the significance of such high-level engagements, highlighting their role in fortifying existing ties and fostering personal rapport between leaders.
During a meeting between Premier Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in March last year, held on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in Doha, discussions revolved around enhancing cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. Bangladesh expressed its interest in bolstering collaboration on liquefied natural gas (LNG), aligning with its increasing energy demands amidst economic development over the past two decades.
Bangladesh's exports to Qatar amounted to 32 million US dollars during the July-June period of the 2022-23 fiscal year, while Qatar's exports to Bangladesh totaled 2,366.5 million dollars during the same period. The upcoming visit is expected to further solidify bilateral cooperation across various sectors, heralding a new chapter in the enduring friendship between the two nations.
