UK provides £5.2m additional humanitarian support to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh
The United Kingdom has pledged an additional £5.2 million (equivalent to Tk73.2 crore) in humanitarian aid to assist Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
This announcement came during the launch of the 2024 humanitarian appeal for the Rohingya response in Bangladesh, known as the Joint Response Plan, held in Geneva, according to a press release.
Administered by the World Food Programme (WFP), International Organization for Migration (IOM), and UN Refugee Agency (UNCHR), this new funding from the UK will facilitate the provision of food and cooking gas to Rohingya refugees residing in Cox's Bazar.
Sarah Cooke, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, expressed her satisfaction in unveiling this new £5.2 million assistance package aimed at addressing the humanitarian needs within the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar and ensuring the Rohingya community has access to essential food and cooking provisions.
Cooke affirmed the UK's unwavering support for Rohingya refugees and the neighboring Bangladeshi communities grappling with the crisis. She acknowledged Bangladesh's significant efforts in accommodating Rohingya refugees and emphasized the UK's commitment to seeking a sustainable, long-term solution to the situation.
