Sheikh Hasina heads to Germany to attend Munich Security Conference

Bangladesh's Premier Sheikh Hasina has commenced her journey to Germany to participate in the Munich Security Conference, marking her first foreign trip after securing a record-extending fourth consecutive term in office.

Sheikh Hasina boarded a regular Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at approximately 11:15 am on Thursday, as reported by MM Imrul Kayes, her assistant press secretary.
The Munich Security Conference, scheduled to take place at Hotel Bayerischer Hof from February 16 to 18, will convene around 500 high-profile representatives from 60 countries. Participants will include heads of state and government, international organizations, media professionals, and representatives from both public and private sectors.
Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud in a media briefing about Prime Minister Hasina's visit to Germany, highlighted that she is slated to engage with leaders from at least seven countries and three international organizations during the conference. The premier is expected to partake in the opening ceremony on February 16 and contribute to a high-level panel discussion on climate finance.
Among the prominent figures Prime Minister Hasina is scheduled to meet are Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, engaged in a conflict with Russia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, and Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
On the sidelines of the security conference, Prime Minister Hasina will also hold meetings with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, German International Cooperation and Development Minister Svenja Schulze, and the World Bank's Senior Managing Director Axel van Trotsenburg. The visit underscores Bangladesh's active participation and diplomatic engagements on the international stage.
